SUMMER CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST
2008 WINNER
Back when the World Had Magic
by Rachel Burdorf
Back when the world had magic,
And Kings and Queens and Knights,
And fairy godmothers, and all those things,
And even dragon-fights;
The world was most certainly not just so,
As the people who read fairytales might not know.
Cause if a guy had a nugget of
gold,
Hed multiply it a hundredfold!
An amount was never a fixed amount,
So money didnt really count.
Every wizard had so much money,
So many rooms filled from ceiling to floor,
That nothing, no matter how much it cost,
Was really valuable any more.
Back when the world had magic,
The amount of crime was just tragic.
Wizards stopped time in order to steal,
Princes became frogs lacking royal appeal.
Sad princesses were locked in high towers,
And everyone magical fought for more powers.
And when a jury condemned a magical man,
He just disappeared with a wave of his hand.
And even if he was made to stay,
He got out of jail within a day,
By making the bars of the jail go BOOM!
And then whistling for his magic broom.
So remember,
If youve been misled by a fairytales looks,
Know that magic is best left in books.
If youve ever wished for a golden-egg hen
Please, oh please, consider again.
The End.
